In 1951, a young businessman and theology student named Bill Bright received an impression from God to help reach the world with the gospel message, beginning with university students. This deeply personal encounter with Jesus Christ was the beginning of the Campus Crusade for Christ movement. Dr. Bright went on to spread this vision and plant the organisation in some 194 countries by the time of his death in 2003. This movement has played a unique role as part of the Church in Europe. It began in 1966, when Bill Bright met European Christian leaders at the Berlin Congress on Evangelism. Soon Finnish evangelist Kalevi Lehtinen joined the staff, then he and others invited a team to come to Europe and start a pioneering ministry of evangelism and discipleship. Today, Agape Europe spans the continent from the Atlantic in the west to the old Cold War lines in the east, and from the Aegean Sea to the Arctic Circle. A ministry presence exists in 17 Western European countries, operating primarily under the name of Agape Europe. The organisation has proved its usefulness in a wide variety of cultures and is now working in over 80 local ministries. Agapé returned to Ireland in 2008... |
